iNTERNAL TIMBER SHUTTERS OR PLANTATION SHUTTERS

Timber shutters or plantation shutters offer a unique finish to the internal living space. Typically many people choose shutters because they look great however, not many people realise that if you choose the right timber in the plantation shutter, there can be a significant benefit to controlling internal temperatures by providing great window insulation. Cedar is by far the most superior timber product for use in shutters. Cedar is naturally termite resistant and has additional benefits of being extremely resistent to warping or shrinking. Using cedar will help ensure that the shutter will look as good in 20 or 30 years time as it did on the day it was installed.

For those looking for something different, take a look at the aged cedar shutter. This uniquely manufactured timber shutter is designed to fit with the French Provincial style of furnishing. The rich grains of the cedar timber are accentuated by sand blasting the cedar and then stained in an ebony finish.  When researching for shutters you will find there are a number of different types of material used for manufacturing shutters. Typically, there is bass wood, PVC or Vinyl, poplar or cotton wood or cedar.  For more information about shutters there is a handy reference at www.guidetoshutters.com.au.

Rolletna uses Open Shutters. Open Shutters are based on the central coast of New South Wales and like ourselves are a Family owned company. Open Shutters have Danish heritage and the attention to detail with their design and manufacturing are evident in the quality of the product.  For further information on Open Shutters, visit www.openshutters.com.au.

Just a few of the key features to the Open Shutters system are:

1. Use of Mortice and Tenon Joints on frames
2. Solid cedar timber (not veneer or finger jointed)
3. Use of  Wattyl automotive paint (resists fading and complies with Australian Paint Standards)
4. Variable spacing of blades to provide a consistent frame size where there are different window sizes around the room

Rolletna also offers an imported timber shutter for those who require a good shutter at a more affordable price. This shutter is made from Poplar and comes is a stylish shiplap blade.

TECHNICAL DATA - INTERNAL SHUTTERS:

Operation: Centre tilt bar or clear view (move one blade by hand and all blades move together - there is no visible mechanism)
Timber: Cedar, PVC, Basswood, Poplar
Application: All windows
Benefits:

Not only do they look great but the open shutters products are a great investment and should increase the value of a home and last over 20 years or more if maintained and cared for.

Wonderful heat control, one of the best available on the market

Privacy control at the tilt of a blade

Strong

Street View: Window displays the horizontal blade of the shutter. Most people choose shutters for this reason and may only install shutters at the street frontage of the house
OTHER DETAILING:
General: Blade sizes range between 70mm, 90mm and 115 mm
Widths: Panel widths to 900mm
Height: Heights over 1800mm require an additional rail (chair rail) to support the shutter frame
Other Information:

Finishes are Stained, lacqured or painted in a standard white range of colours. Alternatively, customer paint to match a specific wall colour. The weathered cedar shutter comes as stained product.

Imported shutters are a cheaper alternative however beware of a number of things such as:

- paints and if they comply with Australian standards,

- insects and if panely have been properly treated for termites and borer,

- timber and how it is joined ask if slats are finger jointed ie not one piece of timber. Also, ask if timber is solid or just a veneer.

- Frame joints shutters require a frame that is strong and able to withstand opening and closing over a long period of time. Check if frames have good join techniques such as mortice and tenon joints and do not for instance have a small plastic butterfly clip.
