screens
Screen fabrics offer the unique capability of providing see-through visibility, heat control and privacy.
Woven from a yarn made of an inner glass fibre core with a poly vinyl covering, screen fabrics come in a number of different colours and weaves. At rolletna we use a number of different mills to enable us to suggest the right type of screen for the project. Colour and weave are extremely important to the selection process and what may or may not work.
Screens provide privacy simply by the way the human eye works. Physiologically, our eye will focus on a lighter area rather than a darker area, hence why we see better through darker fabrics. What this means for screen fabrics is that during the day when it is typically lighter outside then inside, you can look through a fabric and view the outside from the inside. During the day the fabric provides good privacy from outside viewers. These fabric and physiological charactistics all reverse at night when the lights are on in a room as it is now lighter inside than outside. In this case, it is possible to see relatively clearly from outside of a living space to the interior room.
Screen fabrics only provide day time privacy. At night time when the lights are on inside the situation reverses, people are able to see inside relatively easily whilst you are unable to see to the outside.
Colour: Dark colours are easier to see through than light colours. Dark colours will however absorb heat rather than reflect heat.
Light colours will reflect heat better than dark colours however, they transmit more light and appear glary in direct sun.
The best function solution to control glare and heat is to use a screen fabric that has a white backing and dark front. Rolletna has a number of such fabrics to choose from that use different coloured yarns and weaves or backings such as aluminium to achieve this optimal requirement.
Weave provides capability to use different coloured yarns to achieve heat and glare control. Weave also provides capability to have more or less view. The amount of visibility is determined not only by colour but also openness of the weave. Rolletna has a number of different fabrics that provide openness ranging fro1% to 15%
Screen fabrics can be used in Roller blinds, panel glides, roman blinds. Where night time privacy is required we can offer a translucent or blockout fabric. Unfortunately if your view is important these fabrics will not provide visibility. To overcome this we can offer a dual or duo roller blind or a tandem or dual curtain.
There are many options and this is why it is best to talk to one of our consultants so we can help you make the right decision.
In our showroom at Rosebery we have four large windows facing west approximately 3m by 3m where you can view different screen fabrics and get a sense for how different screen control heat, glare and privacy.
