External shutters offer a stylish look and have the added benefit for climate control by blocking the heat or cold before it is able to enter the home. External shutters can be made as a cedar timber shutter or as an aluminium shutter.

External shutters can be fitted and operated as a sliding system, bi-fold system or hinged system.

The picture above shows a timber look aluminium shutter on a sliding system.

EXTERNAL TIMBER SHUTTERS
Timber shutters made from western red cedar are preferred as the cedar timber retains natural oils. Cedar is widely recognised for this property and is specified by architects and used widely in the building industry for both external and internal applications.

PAINTED OR POWDER COATED EXTERNAL ALUMINIUM SHUTTERS
Rolletna supplies aluminium shutters that can either be powder coated to any Dulux Powder coat paint, timber look powder coat or anodised. When anodising it is important to determine if a marine grade finish is required in which case we provide a 25um finish (micron).  The standard anodised finish is 15um (micron)

TECHNICAL DATA - EXTERNAL SHUTTERS:

Operation: Manual tilt or fixed blade. Hinged, sliding, bi-fold or fixed panels.
Materials: Cedar Timber, Hardwood Timber, Aluminium
Application: All windows
Benefits:

Controls heat, wind and glare from the outside of the living or work space.

Aluminium shutters can be custom painted in a wet finish. Wet finish paints offer an advantage over powder coated finished because all parts of the shutter will have the colour applied. Powder coated finishes will leave components such as blade end caps with different colour.

Street View: Street view will see the horizontally framed blades of the shutter
OTHER DETAILING:
General: Blade sizes are either 90mm or 115mm
Widths: 100mm to 1500mm for Aluminium shutters. Timber shutters to 900mm.
Height: Heights over 1800mm on a tilt blade solution require a rail to ensure the shutter fame remains stable and rigid.
Other Information:

External Timber Shutters - can be finished with a clear Lacquer, oil or automative paint. Some people prefer not to put any finish on at all and simply let the cedar timber weather naturally to a grey colour. We do not recommend this with exterior timber shutters as the timber grains are opened and it will shorten the life of the product.

External Aluminium Shutters: can be finished in with annodised colours such as silver. When requesting this finish we normally suggest that a marine grade 21micron annodising is applied.

As an alternative to an annodised finish on external aluminium shutters, we can suggest powder coat, custom automative paint finish or a timber look powder coat finish.

For a timber look aluminium shutter, we use a special powder coat finish that gives the look of timber but the resilience and wear of aluminium. Some of the colours available include: Western red cedar, Jarrah, Rosewood and Australian Cedar.
